The tour is a new and unique match racing tour that consists of three ISAF grade 2 regattas sailed “back to back” during nine days in a row in Sweden, Finland and Estonia. Each regatta consists of three days of racing and after the prize giving at each individual regatta the teams travel night time by ferry to the next venue. The teams consists of international and nordic top level match racing teams.
With the concept of sailing three regattas in a row with no breaks, Baltic Match Tour adds new dimensions to matchracing. The teams endurance and qualifications of staying focused and physical fit for nine days of racing will be key and add new values to the sport, media and the public.
10 teams participate on the Baltic Match Tour (on all three regattas) and totally 12 teams compete at each individual regatta. At each regatta we invite the two best national “upcoming” match racing teams to give them a chance to learn from and compete against top international sailors.
The Baltic Match Tour is initiated by the Swedish match racing sailor Björn Hansen, one of Swedens most qualified match racing sailor and previous winner of Match Cup Sweden 2007. The Tour is organized by Stockholm Match Race Center, specialized in producing commercial sailing events. The first regatta “Gill Baltic Match Race” in Sweden is organized by Stockholm Match Race Center together with Gamla Stans Yacht Sällskap. The other regattas in Finland and Estonia are produced together with Nyländska Jaktklubben in Helsinki and the Estonian Match Racing Union in Tallinn
